We kick off this series of articles with League President/CEO Dennis Tanimoto.

dennisHow long have you been with the League?

I recently celebrated my 29th-year anniversary.

What did you do prior to joining the League?

I was an officer at two community banks in Honolulu – 6 years at Liberty Bank (which was merged into Bank of America and subsequently acquired by American Savings Bank) and 13 years at City Bank (which was merged into Central Pacific Bank).

What’s your favorite restaurant? 

Old Saimin House near the Kalihi Post Office on North King Street to enjoy the ultimate in local comfort food – a large bowl of wun tun min.

What motivates you at work? 

Working with a wonderful cohort to create and maintain a favorable environment for credit unions to succeed.

When you were in high school, what did you want to be when you grew up? 

I wanted to be an electrical engineer . . . until I got to calculus in college.
