Each year, Hawaii credit unions send a delegation of volunteers and professional to Washington D.C. for the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC). An essential part of CUNA GAC is visiting with members of Congress on Capitol Hill.

Though in-person Hill Visits along with the rest of CUNA GAC were sent online by COVID-19, your League arranged an online meeting with Senators Brian Shatz and Mazie Hirono and Representatives Ed Case and Kai Kahele.  On March 9, over 40 credit union officials participated in the online meet and greet.

Senior Senator Brian Schatz reaffirmed his commitment to Hawaii credit union concerns including preservation of our tax-exempt status, cybersecurity, and reducing regulatory burden.  Senator Hirono also emphasized her support of credit union issues and thanked Hawaii credit unions for being at the forefront of helping our communities weather the economic storm caused by COVID-19.  Representative Ed Case commended Hawaii credit unions for the incredible work in assisting many families and businesses across Hawaii through the financial challenges of COVID-19. Our newest member of Congress, Representative Kai Kahele, thanked Hawaii credit unions for their support and looked forward to learning more about issues of importance to credit unions.

Mahalo to all participating Hawaii credit unions! Your representation provides a unified voice for credit union issues to our leaders in Washington D.C.
