Be loud and proud! Tell your credit union story

It's time to tell our stories! Advancing Communities is a nationwide campaign designed to demonstrate the economic value of credit unions and the credit union difference through the lens of community impact. It combines factual economic and statistical data with real-life stories from credit unions and members.

AdvancingComm fullcolor 274x65Consumers are more effectively served by credit unions than other financial service options and telling that story in a compelling manner is a powerful advocacy tool.

Advancing Communities focuses on several key areas: creating financial lifelines, jobs, and opportunities for the most underserved populations, expanding financial service access in rural areas, and helping small businesses thrive. The key message of the campaign comes down to the credit union structure, mission, and value proposition to members and local communities.

Advancing Communities is not a catch-all site for "calls to action" on various financial services issues that are not directly related to advancing the states' economic health or key initiatives outlined above. We are strategically promoting credit unions' role in economic development to state lawmakers to demonstrate the value credit unions provide in local economies.

We are looking for more representation from Hawaii credit unions! Go to and click on Share Your Credit Union Story.  We’re not looking for professionally produced videos. Here are a couple of tips for gathering credit union stories:

  • Talking to loan officers is helpful– often they have the best stories and know which members would be excited to share their stories.
  • If making a video is overwhelming, simply record members via Zoom (always have signed permission agreements).

Advancing Communities is conducted in partnership with the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).
