Previously known as the Regulatory and Governmental Affairs Conference and held at the Ala Moana Hotel, the Governmental Affairs Symposium brings a full day of information and insight from industry and government leaders.


Governor David Y. Ige was sworn in as the eighth governor of the State of Hawaii on December 1, 2014.  Governor Ige is focused on improving the lives of Hawaii’s people and making the islands a place future generations choose to call home. He believes we can achieve our shared goals because we have always been better together.

Chad Blair has been a writer, editor, and teacher in Honolulu for more than 25 years. His job as Civil Beat reporter and editor is to cover Hawaii politics, especially how decisions impact people and communities. Blair has worked as a journalist for Pacific Business News, Hawaii Public Radio, and Honolulu Weekly. He has taught at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu Community College, Hawaii Pacific University, and Chaminade University of Honolulu.

Jim Nussle is president and CEO of the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).  CUNA is the largest and most influential national financial services trade association advocating for America's credit unions. There are nearly 5,700 credit unions nationwide, with over 115 million members and more than $1.2 trillion in assets. Since 2014, Nussle has been proud to lead the grassroots advocacy strength of the credit union movement.

Rodney E. Hood was nominated by President Donald Trump for the NCUA Board on January 19, 2019. The U.S. Senate confirmed him on March 14, 2019; he took the oath of office on April 8, 2019; and he was designated as the eleventh NCUA chairman by President Trump. As NCUA board chairman, Hood serves as a voting member of the Financial Stability Oversight Council. He represents NCUA on the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council and the Financial and Banking Information Infrastructure Committee.

Ryan Donovan is CUNA’s chief advocacy officer responsible for developing and implementing CUNA’s legislative, regulatory, and state government advocacy efforts.  In recent years these efforts have proven successful in reducing credit unions' regulatory burden and protecting them from legislative proposals which would make it more difficult for them to serve their members.

Steve Rick is a director and the chief economist for CUNA Mutual Group. He is an economic researcher, analyst, and forecaster with an expertise in consumer markets and the credit union industry. His forecasts are the starting point for strategic planning and help create a clear understanding of the underlying trends and links between the general economy, the financial services industry, and CUNA Mutual Group's policy owners.
