At a press conference yesterday, Maui Mayor Mike Victorino announced financial relief for small businesses through the new Kokua Maui County Small Business Recovery & Relief Fund.

kokua mauiCARES Act funds will be used to help local small businesses recover and survive economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The County of Maui is partnering with six credit unions to implement the program: Kahului FCU, Maui FCU, Maui County FCU, Maui Teachers FCU, Valley Isle Community FCU, and Wailuku FCU.

“Small businesses are the heart of Maui’s economy and the expense reimbursement program will hopefully help those to stay in business,” noted Gary Fukuroku, President/CEO of Maui County FCU.

The fund covers reimbursable business expenses such as rent/lease payments, utility payments, and COVID-19-related safety precautions at the place of business. The maximum award for small businesses is $7,500. Applications will be available starting August 3, 2020, at 12 am (HST).
