In March 2020, the #ShowAlohaChallenge was created by Mike Gangloff and Lanai Tabura to infuse money in Hawaii’s small “mom and pop” restaurants and feed our kupuna (senior citizens). As of May 5, the campaign raised $617,734 and set the next goal at $750,000.

Hawaiian Financial FCU has been busy supporting #ShowAlohaChallenge efforts and raised over $22,000 by selling #ShowAlohaChallenge t-shirts and giving away HIFICU health kits. The health kits include 3 face masks, sanitizing wipes and sanitizing spray with every t-shirt purchase.

As part of the #ShowAlohaChallenge effort, HIFICU helped pack and distribute 1,000 keiki stimulus packs in a drive through event on Sunday, April 26. These packs included baked items from LaTour Café; milk, P.O.G. and yogurt from Meadow Gold; packaged meats, and more.

The credit union was asked and agreed to continue its fundraising efforts. The monies HIFCU raised so far would provide over 2,200 meals.
